Questions to Ask a Granite Supplier
Twelve questions that separate a dependable granite partner from an expensive lesson.
Most granite problems are procurement problems: expectations that were never written down. These questions surface them before money moves.
About the material
Ask these before approving any stone:
- Can I see current photos of the actual bundle that would ship?
- Are the slabs sequential from one block?
- What are the exact usable dimensions and thickness tolerance?
- Is this material grade suitable for my application — and what fills or repairs does it carry?
About production and quality
Then pin down the process:
- Who fabricates the material, and who inspects it before packing?
- What dimensional tolerances do you work to on cut-to-size?
- Will I receive inspection photos before the container is sealed?
- How is a control sample handled for shade approval?
About logistics and problems
Finally, plan for the ocean and for the exception:
- How is the material packed, and is the lumber ISPM-15 compliant?
- What is the realistic door-to-door lead time, including inland delivery?
- How are transit-damage claims documented and resolved?
- Who is my single point of contact from order to delivery?
